Community is a key part of Mark Holcomb’s life.

Whether he’s serving in it, or practicing law because of it.

“When I moved here (and took the position at Morton McGoldrick) in 1987,” he says, “I felt that it was important to get involved with the community.”

Indeed, his involvement has paid off in spades. The real-estate specialist – who also takes on everything from development approval to leasing and financing issues – is very busy these days.

“Mostly real estate is where I bring value to the firm,” Mark says. “But one of the most rewarding parts of my work is that I get almost all my business by referrals from the community. So, I’d say that I’m doing something right.”

Mark’s background burgeoned in the Midwest, where he earned his BA in History and Psychology from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, ID. He earned his law degree at Indiana University, where he was also a member of the Moot Court National Trial Competition Team. And his continuing education includes experience as an author and presenter around Puget Sound on real estate and corporate issues.

As far as being on the Morton McGoldrick team, Mark enjoys the firm’s team approach, and it’s community connections.

“Historically, the firm has the reputation of understanding the ‘old Tacoma,’” he says. “We have a lot of long-established clients that we’re still helping. It’s a multi-generational interaction.”

And these connections continue through regional memberships with the Washington State and Tacoma—Pierce County Bar associations. Mark also serves on the American Leadership Forum, the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound and the Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation. He also has input with the Children’s Museum of Tacoma, the Tacoma Farmer’s Market, the Washington Dragon Boat Association, the Peninsula Spay Neuter Clinic and the YWCA.

How did he come to be a part of the firm, particularly because it was one of many career opportunities?

“I fell in love with the area,” he says. “Morton McGoldrick was the first interview I had. And I’m still here.”

Mark and his three children, besides enjoying outdoor activities, love to stay active – anything to get outdoors. On their schedule: hiking, running, camping, playing. Just being together, Mark says, is their best time.

Still, though, community service is on his agenda. Including standing as president of the board of the Mary Bridge Children’s Fund, and providing pro bono work for various corporate and nonprofit agencies.

Says Mark, “I have always emphasized community involvement. Serving on community boards is something that I take pride in.”
